What is the Dizzion Horizon GI Manager?
The Dizzion GI Manager is a tool developed by Dizzion to give customers the ability to power on/off their golden image(s) (GIs) and push any changes to the corresponding UAT pool.
Prerequisites
-
You must be a Dizzion Horizon DaaS or Managed DaaS customer.
-
You must have at least one Instant Clone (Non-Persistent) GI and UAT pool. GI Manager is currently not available for Dedicated (Persistent) desktop pools. See the below section titled Current limitations for more details.
-
Dizzion support must configure the tool for your use. If you follow the below steps and do not see the GI Manager option, please create a support ticket or reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM).
How to use
Launching the tool
Log into the Horizon Client and click on the published application as pictured below. The tool may take 30-90 seconds to initialize and fully launch, this is expected. If you don't see the GI Manager application, please create a Dizzion support ticket and support will configure it for your environment.
Layout and navigation of the tool
Each bullet below has a corresponding reference in the below image.
-
(1) This dropdown box allows you to select which of your GIs you want to interact with. If a GI is missing, please contact Dizzion support to add it to the list.
-
(2) This button allows you to toggle the power of the currently selected GI. After the power on/off is processed, the “Power Status” field (5) will automatically update with the current status.
-
(3) This button allows you to push the currently selected GI to the corresponding UAT pool. If it is not already on, this will power on the GI, run Dizzion's cleanup procedures, and execute the needed backend tasks to push the image. See the Pushing an image to UAT section for details on this.
-
(4) This button will force a refresh of the GI’s power status. Use this when you don’t want to execute a power or UAT operation, such as if you lost connection to a GI you were working on and want to see if it is still powered on.
-
(5) This is a status box that shows the power status of the currently selected GI. This will not update automatically unless you execute a power/UAT operation or use the “Status Refresh” button.
Powering on/off an image
-
Select a GI from the GI Dropdown (1)
-
Click on GI Power On/Off (3)
-
Wait for the Power Status (5) to show the updated power status
Pushing an image to UAT
-
Select a GI from the GI dropdown menu (1)
-
Click Push Image to UAT (3). Once this has been clicked, the tool will go into a locked-out state that prevents any further input. This is by design to prevent any accidental disruption of the UAT push process that could break the image. If an issue is encountered during the push process, the process will continue to attempt until the configured timeout value is reached. If you are unable to push the image, please contact Dizzion support.
-
Check your Horizon console to monitor the status of the recompose.
Current limitations
-
The current version of the GI manager has a 1:1 configuration of UAT pools to GIs so if you have more than one UAT pool configured with the same GI, you will only be able to push to one pool. This will be addressed in a future release, but for now, you can still have Dizzion support push the image to UAT as you normally would.
-
Multi-Horizon deployments in sub-campaigns within a single PCVDC will each need their own GI Manager-pushed application and cannot be managed by the parent campaign at this time.
-
The GI manager is only designed for Instant Clone images and can not manage Dedicated (Persistent) desktop templates.
